Antique & Custom Wooden doors

Doors carved by hand, in the styles of four regions.

We build custom wooden doors in Chettinad, Naaluketu, contemporary, and freely carved styles, and source genuine antique and reclaimed doors from old South Indian homes. Every frame is joined and finished by hand.

Styles of Doors

Pick a tradition, or blend a few.

Contemporary & Geometric

Clean grid panels and minimal hardware, built for modern homes that still want a solid wood door.

Chettinad Style

Tall single-piece teak panels with brass studwork and bold lintel carving, true to Karaikudi mansions.

Naaluketu Style

Low, wide proportions with kalasam-topped frames, matched to Kerala courtyard homes.

Custom Carved Doors

Your own motifs, deities, florals, or family crest, carved to a brief with no template restrictions.

Share opening dimensions, chosen style, and any motifs. We sketch options within a week.
02

Timber Seasoning

Wood is selected first, then set aside to dry. Teak and rosewood both need time to stabilize before any work begins.
03

Joinery & Carving

Mortise-tenon joinery and hand carving, no laminate shortcuts on visible faces.
04

Finish & Install

Oil or lacquer finish, hardware fitted, delivered with on-site installation support.
Antique & Reclaimed Doors

Original doors, dated and quality checked.

Original doors sourced from old Chettinad mansions, Kerala tharavads, and Tamil agraharams. These are not reproductions. The carving, the proportions, and the wood itself are from another era of construction.

What wood are these doors made from?

Most pieces are teak or rosewood, both cut and dried to standards that are hard to match in new timber today. The density and grain quality in old-growth wood is a large part of why these doors have lasted this long.

What condition do they arrive in?

Each door is inspected before listing. Termite treatment, joint reinforcement, and any hardware replacement are done at the workshop. Damage that affects structural integrity is fixed. Surface wear, patina, and original tool marks are left as they are if possible or adjusted depending on the condition.

Can they be fitted to a new opening?

Yes. Antique doors can be resized and rehung to fit your opening without cutting into the original carved panels.
