Tanjore painting developed in Thanjavur under Maratha patronage in the 17th century, built on a base of wood, layered with gesso relief work, and finished with gold foil and natural stone inlay. The technique has changed little since then. Each piece still goes through gesso modelling, gilding, and hand-painted detailing before it reaches a frame.
These are sourced pieces, not reproductions. Each painting carries genuine 22K gold foil work from its period of origin, with surface wear, foxing, or frame damage left untouched or restored only where structurally needed. Subjects typically include Krishna, Lakshmi, and Saraswati, with a handful of Ashtalakshmi and Ramayana panels in circulation. Provenance and approximate dating are noted where documentation exists.
Made to order, using 22K gold foil and the same gesso technique as the antique pieces. Size, deity, frame style, and stone colour can be specified. Production takes 3 to 4 weeks depending on relief detail and panel size.
